Green energy refers to energy that is produced from natural sources and methods that cause little to no harm to the natural environment. It is a subset of renewable energy, meaning that the sources are naturally replenished.

Here are the key characteristics of green energy:

* Environmentally Friendly: The primary goal of green energy is to minimize environmental impact, particularly by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution that contribute to climate change.

* Derived from Natural Sources: Green energy comes from sources that are naturally abundant and continuously replenished, such as:

* Solar power: Harnessing energy from the sun's rays using photovoltaic panels or concentrated solar power.

* Wind power: Generating electricity using wind turbines.

* Hydropower: Capturing energy from flowing water, often through dams or run-of-river systems.

* Geothermal energy: Utilizing heat from within the Earth's core.

* Biomass (eligible): Converting organic materials (like agricultural waste or certain plant matter) into energy, provided the process is sustainable and doesn't lead to significant carbon emissions.

* Clean: When used, green energy sources produce little to no greenhouse gas emissions or other pollutants.

* Sustainable: These sources are constantly renewed on a human timescale, unlike finite fossil fuels.

While "green energy" and "renewable energy" are often used interchangeably, there's a subtle distinction: all green energy is renewable, but not all renewable energy is considered entirely "green." For example, some biomass energy might be renewable but could produce carbon emissions during the burning process, making it less "green" than solar or wind.
